Robotic Process Automation – Imagine yourself sitting at your work desk, receiving mails and forwarding them to other people, or copying files from one folder to another over and over and over again… Feels infuriating, doesn’t it?
RPA is here to the rescue!! It will forward your emails, copy your files to wherever you want, complete your assignments and coursework on time and submit them so that you could sit and relax… (Disregard the last part, do your assignments yourself!)
But what exactly is RPA? RPA stands for robotic process automation a technology which enables software robots to automate the repetitive tasks that don’t really add a lot of value to the work but are essential whatsoever.
So how do robots go about automating stuff? The fundamental idea is to “look and learn”. The RPA system will observe the tasks performed by the user with a specific application and will generate a set of instructions to imitate the same procedure automatically. This process generally takes place in a virtual environment which means that there is no need for a keyboard or mouse to perform a task, the bot will do it by itself!!
These systems are immune to errors and very efficient in performing repetitive tasks. Furthermore, they sit on top of the pre-existing infrastructure which enables setting up an RPA with little to no modifications to the current hardware
This proves beneficial for businesses as the laborious tasks when automated, enables the employees to invest more of their time and brains into a more creative set of problems. Also, the seamless integration of RPA enhances the end-user experience substantially.
RPA systems have existed for a long time now and with the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning these systems are evolving rapidly. This field, as it progresses, will open up a plethora of automation opportunities that would improve the quality of human work and, most importantly, life.
